As summer begins, it’s time for essential maintenance on our local roads! From July 23rd to July 25th, Pave Northwest will be working on West 6th Avenue, applying slurry sealing to the pavement. This project is not just beneficial; it's crucial for the longevity of our roads and ensures a smoother ride for everyone. However, it does mean we need to prepare for temporary closures and detour routes.
What is Slurry Sealing?
Let’s take a moment to understand slurry sealing. This method involves spreading a mixture of fine aggregates and liquid asphalt over the road surface. It serves multiple purposes:
Seals Cracks: This prevents moisture infiltration, which can lead to more significant issues like potholes.
Improves Skid Resistance: Enhanced traction makes driving safer, especially during rainy weather.
Refreshes Appearance: The dark color of the seal improves visibility.
Slurry sealing is like giving our roads a much-needed facelift. According to studies, this maintenance method can extend a road's lifespan by 5 to 10 years. This ultimately helps save the community as it avoids costly repairs.
Scheduled Closures
With this maintenance project, road closures will be necessary. During the slurry sealing operation, following sections of West 6th Avenue will be closed from 8 AM to 5 PM:
Wednesday, July 23rd: 6th Ave from Nyssa Street to Oaklea Drive.
Thursday, July 24th: 6th Avenue from Laurel Street to Nyssa Street.
Friday, July 25th: 6th Avenue from Ivy Street to Laurel Street.
This schedule is set for the safety of both workers and drivers while the sealing is being applied.
Plan your trips ahead of time, whether it’s for work, errands, or weekend outings. Knowing this schedule can help you avoid delays!
Detour Routes
Pave Northwest has designated detour routes to help drivers navigate around the closed sections. Be sure to refer to the accompanying map for exact details. Local residents will also see signage erected in the area to assist with navigating these changes effectively.
These detour routes aim to minimize your inconvenience, allowing you to reach your destination as smoothly as possible. Remember that a little patience goes a long way during roadwork!
